As Full Moon Rises, Let Go

11/3/2017

This month’s Full Moon – also known as the Frost Moon or Mourning Moon – appears on Saturday, Nov 4. For those looking to view the moon though, it will appear the fullest on Nov 3.

The Frost Moon received its name from Native Americans since the moon typically coincides with the season’s first frost. In the spiritual sense, it is referred to as a Mourning Moon and symbolizes a time to reflect, make personal changes and let go of the past.

With the holidays and end of the year approaching, now is a good time to focus on your psyche, restore your emotions and clear away reminders of the past. Here are some tips:
  • Think about how you mourn. Full moons are known to bring emotions into focus. This month think about how you feel and don’t rush through or ignore your feelings. Never underestimate the power of a good cry.
  • Burn your Moon Candle! Use the power of the moon to harness your feminine energy, recharge your stones and yourself. This Fire Elixir is most powerful when used during different phases of the moon to best tap into your energy.
  • Let go. A new moon is a good chance to let go. Focus on anything you’ve been holding onto that you don’t need – that pile of cards from your ex or pair of shoes that you never wear. Give your feelings – and your personal space – room to breathe.
  • Share. Full moons have a way bringing truths into the light. Lean into this energy and share something you’ve been meaning to tell a friend or loved one. Or embrace the Mourning Moon and write a letter to a loved one who has passed on.

This month’s Moon will be close to the Moon’s perigee (or closest point to the Earth) so will have a stunning appearance. But you’ll want to mark your calendar for next month’s Full Moon on Dec 3 which is a Super Moon – and sure to be a spectacular sight!

Harnessing Our Energy

4/22/2017

April is Earth Month and at Aloha Elixir we have been spending more time thinking not only about our personal energy but also about the energy we consume.

We are often guilty of unconsciously expending our energy on wasteful or unproductive things. Like expressing frustration towards others while waiting in a long line. Or spending a large part of the day just scrolling through social media. We’re constantly using energy without even thinking about it… even in our homes!

Electricity is a precious resource, just like your time. And it doesn’t take much to make these conscious efforts towards energy conservation. By contributing to sustainability efforts you won’t only make an impact on the environment, but also save on your electricity bill!

Here are some of our favorite, surprisingly simple tips to help you reduce your energy use:
  • Did you know that whenever something is plugged into an outlet, it is consuming electricity -- whether it’s on or not? You can save some energy (and some of your electric bill) when you use an advanced power strip. Advanced power strips (APS) are designed for home entertainment centers or home office areas. You can plug your like-electronics into the power strip and the APS will stop the pull of electricity whenever the electronics are idle. Or forgo the power strip altogether and simply unplug your electronics like phone charger and coffee maker when they aren’t in use.
  • Take a trip to the hardware store and pick up compact fluorescent lamps or LED bulbs to lighten the load of energy from your light sources. They initially cost a bit more than the typical incandescent bulbs, but save you money on your electric bill in the long run. You could also use light dimmers or track lighting to lower light levels, which lower your electricity consumption as well.
  • Cooking can be an expensive taste since it eats up energy when something is in the oven or on the stove for too long. If you’re cooking just one pot or pan, forego the stove and use a small cooking range. It burns less energy than using a stove top. If the stove is your only option keep your stove range clean to reflect heat better. This will help cook more quickly without burning your food or through your energy.
  • When it comes to designing an eco-friendly home nothing beats nature. Using natural lighting such as skylights or even incorporating multiple windows in a room can help reduce the need for lights or lamps. On that note, tinting windows and keeping your shades or curtains drawn during the day can save you from cranking up the air conditioner.

It just takes a little effort to make our energy go a long way. Don’t forget the little things we do can collectively make a difference. Happy Earth Month!

A holiday we love to celebrate

2/6/2017

Valentine’s Day

A holiday we love to celebrate
Do you know why we celebrate Valentine’s Day? It’s a story that will sweep you away…

During the Roman Empire, marriages of soldiers in opposition of the empire were prohibited and young men caught breaking the law were even executed. Couples daring enough to break the law and seal the deal sought Saint Valentine – a bishop who secretly performed marriages for young lovers. St. Valentine kept the romance alive for many couples until he was caught and sentenced to execution.

Alone in his prison cell, St. Valentine and the jailor’s daughter formed a deep bond. He fell in love with the young girl and just before his execution on February 14, 270 A.D., he wrote a farewell letter to her signed “From Your Valentine.” Today the holiday symbolizes that same hope that St. Valentine carried for young couples.

Love is definitely something to be celebrated every day. However, much like giving gratitude on Thanksgiving, February 14 is another reminder to proclaim your love for the ones you love.

So how are you going to keep the flame burning this Valentine’s day? We’re sharing some of our favorite ideas to celebrate your affection on this day – and every day!
  • Sometimes it’s the little things that mean the most. A loving gesture could be as easy as an early morning wake up call to tell that special someone “Happy Valentine’s Day!” or a simple “I love you.” Make any day a date night with a quiet stroll along the beach. And don’t wait till you make a mistake to let love blossom – surprise her with her favorite flowers for no reason at all.
  • Make sure that love is in the air by lighting Aloha Elixir’s Romantic Rose Soy Elixir or the Aloha Elixir Venus Candle. Light the spark and set the mood for a romantic dinner or night cap by lighting these candles fused with loving intentions. Order yours here: ALOHA ELIXIR
  • Love has no limits – meaning Valentine’s Day is for everyone! Share the love with your special someone whether it’s friends, children or a family member. Treat yourself or someone you care about to their favorite snack or a thoughtful card or note. Give your kids a hug or your significant other a massage after a long day. Showing your love also doesn’t need to be about material things.
  • Leave it to the stars to deepen a love connection. Stargazing is the perfect way to spark intimate conversation and can be dressed up with a picnic or simply sharing a bottle of your favorite wine or bubbly. Take a detour on your drive home and take advantage of that sunroof and make it a moon-roof paired with your love song. As cliché as it sounds, let the moon hit their eyes and like a big pizza pie, that’s amore!
  • Disconnect the distractions and make sure you only have eyes for your special someone – literally. Whether you’re doing something as simple as watching a movie at home or going out to a fancy dinner, leave your smart phone at home or tucked safely away in your pocket. That food pic you want to post, can wait till later. So for now, just bask in the special moment and swoon over the real apple of your eye.

Of all days in the year, use this day to let love happen! And remember, there’s never a bad time to express your affection for the ones you adore.

Lunar New Year

1/18/2017

Kung Hei Fat Choi! The Lunar New Year on January 28, is a great opportunity to refocus on setting new intentions or refocusing on old ones.

This year is the Year of the Rooster, which is the tenth zodiac sign in the 12-year cycle. According to Chinese culture the rooster represents fidelity and punctuality. People born in this sign are thought to be beautiful, kind-hearted, courageous, independent, humorous and honest.

Chinese believe that energy needs to be shifted and cleansed before the beginning of the Lunar New Year to welcome good fortune. Traditionally, this focused the celebration around appeasing the Gods through Feng Shui design, lighting prayer incense, and preparing large meals to signify abundance. Here are some other ways you can light up the Lunar New Year and make it a prosperous one!

  • Just as the moon cycle brings a new phase every month, we also have the opportunity to start a new phase in our own lives. Light the Aloha Elixir Moon Soy Intention Candle during the different phases of the moon as a tool to further release your intentions to the universe. During the new moon of the Lunar New Year celebration, this elixir enhances meditation towards abundance, manifesting desires, and protection.
  • One of our favorite ways to celebrate the Lunar New Year is by enjoying some of our favorite treats, each which are rich with symbolism. One of these are gao, which sounds the same as the word for “tall” or “high.” The cake symbolizes achieving new heights in the coming year and is made from glutinous rice flower, brown sugar and oil.
  • Many eat or display tangerines or oranges before the New Year since it is believed to bring a wealth of money and good luck in the coming year. The tradition stems from the fact that the Chinese words for “gold” and “orange” sound similar while the word for tangerine echoes the word “luck.” Many also leave the leaves on the fruit when displayed since leaves represent longevity.
  • A popular activity in Chinese culture is to put money in a red lycee envelope and feed it to lion dancers which encourages your own prosperity in the New Year. This act can be done at home to encourage reaching your own financial goals with our Money Pot Kit. Packaged with a beautifully handmade money pot, a limited edition money intention candle, petite assorted gemstones, and good luck coins, the Money Pot Kit is blessed with the energy of limitless abundance.
  • Another tradition is to clean the house before the New Year to get rid of all the bad luck collected in the previous year. Many believe that you can’t sweep during the first few days of the New Year or you will sweep all the good luck away!
  • Just as January 1 is an opportunity to create a new outlook on your life, the Lunar New Year equally shifts the energy towards new beginnings. Manifest clarity with one of our elixirs charged with crystalized energy full of positive growth. Our New Beginnings Soy Intention Candle contains clear quartz, citrine, and jade for high vibrations of self-empowerment and to help open the path as you embark on a New Year.

Every new beginning starts with the desire for change and positive change begins with positive intent. Just as the Chinese proverb says: “be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still.” Tap into the arrival of the new lunar calendar and celebrate the start of something new and great!

Achieving your New Year’s Intentions in 5 Simple Steps

Achieving your New Year’s Intentions in 5 Simple Steps

Happy New Year!

With 2017 now upon us many of us are busy thinking about our intentions for the coming year. I have many clients come to me for recommendations on how they can best reach their goals.

My tips for achieving New Year’s intentions is simply not to get overwhelmed and take things day by day. Just like climbing a ladder, the top is reached step by step. If your resolution is to move into a new home, set aside some time every day to plan your move by taking 20 minutes to search for a new house or condo. Remember that things may not happen on our timeline, but the belief that it will eventually occur helps to fuel the motivation to get there.

Ready to climb the ladder into 2017? Here are my steps to intention success:
  1. Set an achievable goal. While being optimistic is part of having a positive mindset, it is equally as important to be realistic when setting your intentions for the year. If your intent is to be a millionaire by the end of the year and you currently make $30,000, then set smalls goals that will help your income increase such as applying for higher paying jobs or turning your hobby into extra income. You may not be able to achieve the six figure status right away, but it is still positive growth if you can focus your energy on growing from your $30,000 to $50,000 within a year.
  2. After you have set your goal, believe it to achieve it. When you plan a trip before booking the ticket, you take the necessary steps to get there – such as saving for expenses, research places to visit, maybe even learning the language and culture. You may not know it, but you are actually strengthening your belief that you will indeed arrive at your desired destination. The more energy you place into the belief that you will achieve your goal, the higher your chances of getting there.
  3. Next up, find the tools to make your goals a reality. Maybe your New Year’s resolution was to lose 20 pounds. You can’t lose weight just by thinking the body will transform if you don’t also change your eating or exercise habits. Enrich your intentions by investing in your goals’ growth, whether that means signing up for a class at your local gym, lighting an intention candle, investing in new workout clothes or creating a vision board. Remember: actions speak louder than words.
  4. Recently, we shared a blog about the gift of gratitude. One of the things we emphasized was to continue being thankful beyond just the holiday season. Gratitude plays a role in abundance – don’t forget to show appreciation for everything currently in your life as it signifies that you’re ready for new and positive change. I encourage my clients to practice at least one minute of gratitude before stating your intention every morning. Not only is it a great way to start your day but it is also a good reminder of what you already have as you work towards accomplishing what you want.
  5. To reach your goals work on creating an environment that encourages you to reach your intentions. For example, if your goal is to quit smoking, then adapt your environment to remove ashtrays or avoid the smoking section outside of your workplace. Surround yourself with positive energy to help you achieve your goals – whether that means rearranging your space with the help of Feng Shui or simply clearing negative energy with the Aloha Elixir Releasing Spray it is a small step that can make a big difference.

Remember that goals are easier to achieve when you have a plan in place! No matter how big or small your intention is, never stop believing that you can achieve it. If you’re looking for some help, be sure to check out our line of Aloha Elixir products to help you on your journey.

Wishing you the best of luck in 2017!
