Valentine’s Day
A holiday we love to celebrate Do you know why we celebrate Valentine’s Day? It’s a story that will sweep you away… During the Roman Empire, marriages of soldiers in opposition of the empire were prohibited and young men caught breaking the law were even executed. Couples daring enough to break the law and seal the deal sought Saint Valentine – a bishop who secretly performed marriages for young lovers. St. Valentine kept the romance alive for many couples until he was caught and sentenced to execution. Alone in his prison cell, St. Valentine and the jailor’s daughter formed a deep bond. He fell in love with the young girl and just before his execution on February 14, 270 A.D., he wrote a farewell letter to her signed “From Your Valentine.” Today the holiday symbolizes that same hope that St. Valentine carried for young couples. Love is definitely something to be celebrated every day. However, much like giving gratitude on Thanksgiving, February 14 is another reminder to proclaim your love for the ones you love. So how are you going to keep the flame burning this Valentine’s day? We’re sharing some of our favorite ideas to celebrate your affection on this day – and every day!
Of all days in the year, use this day to let love happen! And remember, there’s never a bad time to express your affection for the ones you adore.
